The Man and the Earth

A triangular relationship

I studied Mining Engineering for my bachelor’s degree. Feeling alienated from that field, I began searching for a deeper relationship with the earth and with myself. Solo journeys within Iran and abroad led me to photography—the missing piece in that search.

This work explores the relationship between people and the earth, both in the present and across time. Humanity exists on and beneath its surface. Our lives are fragile within the vastness of time: we evolve and change, while the earth moves at a slower pace.

The photographs were made with an analog camera and a limited number of rolls of black-and-white film on each journey. I value that limitation. I processed the films around three months after returning, allowing time to reflect, then forget, and finally encounter what I had seen and felt anew.
